The Kaziranga Heritage: A New Chapter in Assam’s Heritage Tourism at Kaziranga National Park

On 3 March 2026, a major milestone in Assam tourism was marked with the inauguration of Kaziranga Heritage, a distinctive heritage resort in Kaziranga located in the iconic landscape of Kaziranga National Park. Himanta Biswa Sarma officially inaugurated the new property; developed as a Public–Private Partnership between the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) and Centre Point Hospitality Group. This project will support the development of heritage tourism in Assam while also promoting eco-tourism in Kaziranga. The goal of this project is to combine hospitality, culture, and conservation in one of India’s most well-known wildlife landscapes.

Kaziranga Heritage seeks to establish a destination for eco-friendly accommodation in Kaziranga that complements Kaziranga's natural environment and the people living there. The estate sits within the biodiverse floodplains shaped by the Brahmaputra River system.

The project aims to enhance the visitor experience around Kaziranga National Park tourism, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Bonani Bungalow: The Historic Core

Bonani Bungalow sits in the centre of the estate and is the historic heart of Kaziranga Heritage. The property has preserved guest registers as far back as 1938, making it one of the earliest examples of hospitality architecture associated with Kaziranga's tourism historic record.

Some of its notable architectural features include:

Raised plinths to resist flooding
Deep verandas to provide natural ventilation
Steep, sloped roofs that can handle substantial amounts of monsoonal precipitation

These features reflect the practicality of Assam-type heritage architecture.

Bonani Bungalow: 10 heritage rooms in Kaziranga
Bonoshree: 8 rooms designed as a cultural salon celebrating Assamese heritage
Kohora River View Cottages: 6 cottages overlooking the Kohora floodplains
Kunjobon Presidential Suites: 4 luxury suites with private plunge pools

Each space combines heritage design with modern hospitality, creating a distinctive Kaziranga stay experience.

Culinary Heritage & Cultural Experiences

Accommodation at Kaziranga Heritage Resort

The property features a 48-seater destination restaurant in Kaziranga showcasing traditional Assamese cuisine prepared using wood-fired chullah cooking and locally sourced ingredients.
The restaurant’s architecture draws inspiration from the Assamese Jaapi, a traditional symbol of welcome. Ceramic detailing on the structure has been created by Jaya Boro.
The estate also integrates art and culture through works by Mridu Moshum Bora and tributes to iconic Assamese musicians Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg.

‘Seujia Kaziranga’: A New Orchid for Kaziranga

Adding to the region’s biodiversity recognition, renowned orchid expert Dr Mohan Pradhan developed a new hybrid orchid named “Seujia Kaziranga”, also known as the Green Kaziranga Orchid.
