Madhya Pradesh CM Visits Kaziranga National Park: Praises Assam’s Rhino Conservation, Seeks to Adopt Wildlife Model
On Sunday, October 5, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav made his first visit to Assam's renowned Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the
one-horned rhinoceros is found in its largest population globally. Accompanied by his wife, the Chief Minister took a jeep safari through the park's central range, witnessing the region's incredible biodiversity and natural beauty firsthand.

During the safari, Chief Minister Yadav praised Assam's successful conservation model, particularly its efforts in protecting rhinos and elephants. He fed sugarcane to the elephants and participated in the symbolic release of a python into its natural habitat, demonstrating his commitment toward wildlife preservation. Speaking to reporters after the visit, he remarked on the park's impressive rhino population of over 3,000 individuals, calling the management excellent and expressing his desire to learn from the park and propagate those wildlife conservation efforts in India, especially in Madhya Pradesh.

Apart from the world's largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, Kaziranga National Park is famous for its thriving ecosystem and dedicated conservation practices that have set a benchmark for wildlife management across the country.

Chief Minister Yadav also highlighted Madhya Pradesh's own progress in wildlife conservation, noting that over 70 elephants have been successfully relocated to Bandhavgarh and other sanctuaries in the state over the past two years. Previously, elephants were absent from Madhya Pradesh, but recent relocation efforts have brought new life to the region's forests. The state has also approved a Rs 47.11 crore plan to manage human-elephant conflicts and promote habitat protection.

During his visit, Yadav expressed interest in exploring a potential animal exchange program between Madhya Pradesh and Assam. He mentioned that Madhya Pradesh has species like gaur and gharial, while Assam boasts a strong population of rhinos and wild buffalo. Such an initiative could significantly enhance biodiversity and conservation efforts in both states.

The visit underscored the growing collaboration between Madhya Pradesh and Assam in wildlife tourism and conservation, marking a significant step toward strengthening partnerships in preserving India's rich natural heritage.
